American Black Walnut Flooring

American walnut flooring (also known as American Black Walnut Flooring)like the European walnut flooring is well known for being a strong, hard wood, ideal for floors.

Walnut flooring : Appearance

Walnut flooring has dark brown heartwood and lighter, often with dark streaks sapwood. The walnut floors grain is frequently curly with mottled and burled figures. The wood surface of walnut floors first appears to be fairly dull and somewhat oily; with time, however, it develops a rich, lustrous patina that accounts for its aristocratic elegance. Walnut floors work better in spacious, visually balanced areas, or as a way of inducing a sense of equilibrium to a rather light-colored décor. Most often is employed for small sections, to add character.

Walnut

The Walnut Tree is a member of the order Juglandeae, an order of trees and shrubs. Known for its beautiful wood, aromatic leaves, fleshy fruit and hard nut, the order comprises around thirty species which are mostly to be found in North America. Of all the order, the Walnut is perhaps the largest, growing very rapidly to a height of twenty feet in ten years and up to seventy feet in total. The trunk of the Walnut may often reach a diameter of five feet or more and its large limbs often spread up to forty feet from the stem.

The manufacture of gun stocks is still one of the main uses of Walnut because it has been found to be lighter in proportion to its strength and elasticity than any other timber; but it is also used for flooring, Skirting furniture, interior decoration and turnery generally. In young Walnut Trees the wood is white but as the tree becomes older it is compact, brown, and beautifully veined, though still easy to work. Though now largely replaced for such purposes by mahogany and other foreign woods, it is still without doubt Europe's most beautiful of furniture-woods. In terms of the density and the beauty of the markings, timber obtained from trees grown on poor soil is actually the best; but the most beautiful of veinings are to be found in the roots.
