If you're looking for that timeless classic parquet flooring, then look no further. Suitable for Gymnasiums, Concert Halls, Dance floors, restaurants or your own home, parquet floors are hard wearing, smooth and easy to clean. Parquet floors have always been known for their longevity as they can often be found under old carpets - once re-finished the parquet floors look as good as new. Parquet floors really do last a lifetime. One of the benefits of parquet flooring is the ability to sand and re-seal a number of times in its lifetime which ensures the floor continues to look as good as new.

Patterns

Available in a range of patterns:

• Herringbone - the most popular parquet floorin style. Similar to zig zags
• Basket Weave - a pattern with blocks laid at 90 degrees to each other
• Ladder - as it says, this pattern is laid with two side tracks and blocks laid horizontally inside.
• Chevron or Hungarian Point - the parquet blocks are made with a rhombus not a rectangle to give a different pattern
• Specific Patterns such as versailles parquet - very intricate patterns usually laid in tiles.

Thicknesses

Blocks are usually 20mm thick. Oak blocks often come in a choice of 15mm or 20mm. Parquet blocks come with the long sides tongue and groove and grooves on the ends enabling different patterns to be achieved.

Battens are 10mm thick unless stated otherwise and are square sides (no tongue and grooves)

Mosaic parquet flooring comes in a 7mm thickness unless stated otherwise. Industrial parquet is usually between 7mm and 10mm thick. Mosaic and Industrial parquet come with square edges which lay side by side - there is no tongue and groove.

Installation

Installing this type of flooring is different to traditional wood flooring and needs careful planning before laying. In a nutshell, parquet is laid using a straight line drawn down the middle of the room as a guide (Crown line). Lay a column of blocks either side of the line with the tongue of each block facing inwards. Continue fitting the blocks or battens until there is sufficient space for two blocks plus an extra gap for expansion. The last block should be cut to take into consideration the edge of the floor and this gap.

We recommend gluing blocks directly to the subfloor and must be done in a timely fashion to ensure a secure fit. All of our hardwood blocks are supplied unfinished giving you the option of finishing the parquet once it has been laid.
