About Bamboo Wood Flooring

The majority of today's Bamboo wood flooring products originate in China and other portions of Asia. The Bamboo is split and flattened, before being laminated together under high pressure. Known for its resistance to moisture, Bamboo flooring has made a considerable presence in the North American marketplace and gaining considerable presence around the world. Two major colours are natural and carbonized with the latter being softer in the way they achieve the colour through pressure steaming.

Bamboo wood flooring has also gained popularity with the green building council and others. Typically each plant or tree can reach maturity in five to six years whereas other more common hardwoods used for flooring can take upwards of fifty years and more.

Bamboos are a group of woody perennial evergreen plants forming by far the largest members of the grass family. Bamboo's long life makes it a Chinese symbol of longevity, while in India it is a symbol of friendship.

Bamboo forms a very hard wood which is stronger and more stable than most woods, with a tensile strength to rival steel. When seasoned it remains light and exceptionally tough. This makes it useful for many things furniture and flooring. Flooring made of Bamboo pieces steamed, flattened, glued together, finished, and cut is becoming more and more popular through out the world as people are looking for more exotic materials.
